The Sun and Moon: The Masculine and Feminine Archetypes

The sun and moon represent different things in different cultures but the one thing that is common in all of them is their polarity.  The sun symbolizes firmness, strength and power while the moon represents calmness, beauty, nurturing. The Sun is representing the masculine the Moon feminine energy. These archetypes, which are represented in mythology and art and literature, flow from the colective unconscious. Father finds his identity and fulfillment in providing, leading and protecting. He is a natural complement to Mother. Mother finds her identity and fulfillment in caring, cherishing and nurturing. The archetypes choose us, as much as or more than we choose the archetypes.  If  we are male, the longing with us is we’re unconsciously looking towards the female quality. If we are female, the longing with us is we’re looking unconsciously towards the male quality, because we are missing the alchemy of  oneness  in the energetic layer of our beings. Our eternal search for a completeness of being where the solar and lunar energy become united as one. When both energies are free to express themselves, the foundation is laid for living in harmony, balance, and fulfillment. When we experience only one polarity prisoning the other, disharmony, imbalance, and disproportion prevails.

The era of total masculine dominance goes back to prehistoric times.  Over the years our daily life become extremely dominated by the masculine energy. Stereotypes developed. Competition over collaboration.  The feminine energies have been ignored and suppressed far too long. Our physical world has gotten out of the natural balance. In society, in general, we honor, respect and elevate masculine energies like thinking, reasoning, action, power and strenght while  disgrace, disrespecting and undervaluing the feminine energies like caring, emotional, support, receptivity. This way we are nurturing the illusion of separation. Our masculine and feminine energies are playing one of the most important role in our relationships. Most of the time we are operating from our wounded masculine and feminine energies. Examples of imbalance: He sometimes runs away from home, withdraws, creates separation. She is desperate for love in her relationships and begs for it. Both of them are having an unhealthy internal masculine and feminine energy heading for a breakup. In same sex relationships, we will still be able to see the masculine and feminine polarity within the relationship. Gay men have a unique relationship with masculine and lesbian woman with feminine. However, in any relationships using too much of our masculine or feminine energies is going to create disharmony in our life.

Masculine and feminine energy have nothing do with gender, we all have both energies within us. Usually, OFF BALANCE wearing the mask we live in. The toxic masculine with its quest for power over others and willingness to use, abuse and slave others to keep that power at all cost. There is also the toxic feminine energy with chronically played role “I am the poor victim” being extremely manipulative to obtain certain privileges,  creating drama and feeds off the attention.  The unbalanced masculine and feminine energy can present the perfect mask. In a society where masculinity is valued, men are pressured to behave in a way that outwardly expresses masculine energy. The overwhelming feeling among many  women is that they are not enough. We have been taught that the boys wear blue and never cries, and the girls wear pink and always cries. This form of sociological torture leads to reprogramming. Whatever we seed in our mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will become a reality for us. For instance, Native Americans never interfere with nature and so among some tribes, children wore gender-neutral clothes.
